A rapid start to 2010 for Volkswagen Transporter and Crafter vans

15-07-2010

Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles have experienced a fantastic start to 2010. The van manufacturer is celebrating winning three awards and an increase in market share from 8% this time last year, to 10.4% by the end of April 2010.

March was a particularly impressive month for Volkswagen with as many vans being sold as there were in the entire first quarter of 2009. Although indicative of the recent upturn in the market as a whole, Volkswagen’s recent success does stand out.

Less than six months since its launch in January, the new Volkswagen Transporter with its fresh new look and more powerful, fuel-efficient and refined Euro5 TDI engines, has already won two awards, while Volkswagen’s third award was picked up by their largest van model, the Crafter.

The Volkswagen Transporter celebrated 60 years of production by grabbing the title of Best Medium Van in the Van Fleet 2010 Honours, and won the Standard Panel Van category in the iVan Awards 2010.

The editor of Van Fleet World and one of the judging panel for the award, John Kendall, waxed lyrical about the Transporter, concluding: “A good van before and now even better after the extensive revisions. A fine range of engines, great build quality and better to drive than before. The latest Volkswagen Transporter has a lot going for it.”

Amidst all the excitement surrounding the new Transporter, the Crafter picked up the title of Best Large Van for the fourth year in a row, breaking all previous records.
